چکیده

Five size groups of hatchery reared cod (2–109 g) and three size groups of wild cod (447–2213 g) were reared at a range of constant temperatures. All groups were fed to satiation, the hatchery fish on dry feed and the wild fish on capelin and shrimp. The optimal temperature for growth decreased linearly with fish weight on a log scale from 17 C for 2 g fish to 7 C for 2000 g fish. Similarly, the optimal temperature for feed conversion decreased with fish weight, from 15 C for 2 g fish to 7 C for 2000 g fish. Growth rate at optimal temperature declined linearly with fish weight on a log–log scale from 5.8 to 0.36% per day for 2 and 2000 g cod, respectively.

Prolonged SDA and reduced digestive efficiency under elevated CO2 may explain reduced growth in Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua).

Land-based aquaculture systems expose fish to elevated dissolved CO2 levels, a factor that is correlated with reduced growth, feed conversion efficiency and body condition index. The physiological basis underlying the pathological effects of environmental hypercapnia is poorly understood, in particular for marine fish species. We investigated whether changes in energy expenditure and the specif...

Effects of systemic versus local gentamicin on the inner ear in the Atlantic cod, Gadus morhua (L.), relevance for fish hearing investigations.

UNLABELLED Fish models are increasingly being used for hearing research investigations. Aminoglycoside antibiotics that are used for damaging the inner ear hair cells can have systemic side effects leading to death of study animals. This study aimed to compare two methods: (i) systemic (intravenous) and (ii) local (intrasaccular) gentamicin administration for induction of inner ear hair cell da...

Haemoglobin genotypes in cod (Gadus morhua L): their geographic distribution and physiological significance.

Haemoglobin polymorphism in cod (Gadus morhua L) has been investigated throughout the last 50years. Field studies have shed light on the geographic distribution of the two common alleles (HbI(1) and HbI(2)), and laboratory studies have shown effects of genotype on physiological traits such as growth, reproduction and hypoxia tolerance. The geographic distribution of alleles shows a correlation ...
